There are three ways available for participants to manage their NDIS fund;
- Self Managed
- Plan Managed
- NDIA Managed (also referred to as “Agency Managed”)
Self Managed
Self-managed participants have greater flexibility. Participants will be provided with plan funding so they can access the supports that will best help them with their disability.
When choosing to be Self Managed, Participants will be responsible for:
- Choosing their service providers
- Managing their budgets
- Keeping track of how much they spend
- Paying their own invoices
- Keeping an updated record of all their spending
- Complete reporting requirements of the NDIS budget
- Providing evidence of where and when spending funds
- Employing staff
- Keeping records for up to 5 years
Benefits of being on Self Managed
- They can choose a registered or non-registered provider
- They can buy support from any business or organisation
- Choose their own contractors or hire their own staff
- Discuss the price of support with their providers using the NDIS price limits
- Manage their own funds, and pay invoices directly for their nominated NDIS bank account

Plan Managed
The NDIA provides funding in participants’ plans to pay for a Plan Manager who pays providers, helps participants keep track of funds and takes care of financial reporting for participants.

NDIA Managed
The NDIA makes payments to service providers on behalf of participants
Benefits of being Agency managed:
- Participants will be able to choose their NDIS registered provider.
- Providers will be claiming payment for the service they provide through the provider portal.
- Participants can monitor claims made by providers against their funding.
- The NDIA will keep and manage participant’s plan records.
