NDIS FAQ

The NDIS is a government-funded scheme to help disabled people with services specifically designed to meet their needs. For more information, you can visit the NDIS website.

You will need to meet the eligibility requirements to access the NDIS. To meet those requirements, you must:

  • Have a substantial and ongoing disability that prevents you from engaging in daily activities.
  • Are under 65 years of age when you first access the scheme.
  • Are an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen who holds a Special Category visa (subclass 444)

If you think you are eligible for the NDIS, you can download the Access Request Form and the Support Evidence Form. You will need to work with your GP, allied health, and specialist medical professionals to prepare the required documents. You can also call 1800 800 110 to make a verbal access request.

Yes. you can choose one or more NDIS service providers to support you with your needs. Enabling choice and control for people with disabilities is one of the NDIS’s goals.

You can set specific requirements about the support worker you want with GET MY CARE. Give us a call on 1300 600 200 to put in a request.

Yes. GET MY CARE can support you with all the services we provide even if you are not with the NDIS. Families can choose to pay for services through private health insurance, or private funding.

Supports that are NOT funded, under any circumstances, include:

  • likely to cause harm to the participant or pose a risk to others
  • unrelated to the participant’s disability
  • duplicate other supports provided under alternative funding
  • part of day-to-day living expenses incurred by the general public and not related to disability support needs (e.g. rent, groceries, household bills)
  • related in any way to income replacement

NDIS support falls into three categories:

Core
Support services to assist you with activities of daily living

Capital
Supporting you with assistive technology, equipment, home or vehicle modifications, or funding for capital costs (e.g. to pay for Specialist Disability Accommodation).

Capacity building
To support you build independence and skills.

The NDIA can give you a plan to last you up to 36 months. Your plan can be extended, roll the same plan for the same amount of time, or you can do a plan review to suit your circumstances.

No. NDIS fund is not considered an income. It is there to support you with everyday living.

No. Prescription glasses are covered by other health systems unless they are disability specific.

The Consumables category allows you to purchase everyday-use items that support you with your disability.
